I feel closer to my home town in Colombia, and I try to escape Islamorada whenever possible. I want to further continue to explore all the different cultures throughout South America.

Changes and experiences shape us into who we are. In the last three years, I have lived in three different countries: Venezuela, the United States, and Mexico. Moving frequently has not been easy but it has made me more mature. Moving to Mexico from the United States was diffucult (but the tacos certainly helped). One of my favorite things about Mexico is how the locals find my accent fascinating.

By basically being Buddy the Elf, I am forever scarred by the fact that in Venezuela, we have blue skies and sunny days year round. I want snow!

Though originally from the sunny beaches of Southern California, the past three years living in the heart of democracy has opened my eyes to a new world. Over the last three years, I have felt the radical sense of change in the air; from attending marches to running letter writing campaigns - kids in DC know how to make their voices heard. I am now a senior in Maryland where I run cross country and swim; but if I’m not doing that, you’ll always see me with a camera in my hand!

Three miles long, a mile a half wide, and a forty five minute boat ride from Portland, Maine, the biggest city in the state. In the city I am a junior at Portland High School. I’m Anna Dai-Liu, from San Diego, California, where the temperature hitting freezing is about as common as Halley’s Comet and the appearance of rain is a miracle sent from heaven (let’s not even talk about snow). From a young age, my parents encouraged me to read, and that’s evolved into a passion for journalism and creative writing. In addition to interest in literary arts, I’m also a dancer, having trained in ballet for 13 years. In the future, I’d like to pursue a career in the STEM field (my inner ten-year-old has a burning desire to be a forensic scientist like Sherlock Holmes). In my sixteen years of life, I've adapted to my three nationalities, Honduran, Guatemalan, and American. I was born in New Jersey but I've lived for the most part in Honduras, a country that has taught me so much about myself and people. Living in these countries I've learned to see the world with a broader, more vulnerable and open perspective. I speak and write about everything going on in my mind (which I can tell you is a lot). Hailing from a small city in the Philippines, my DNA is made up of a penchant for learning and history (I live in Malolos, the culture capital of the country), good food (my mom grew up in Pampanga, the culinary capital), and repetition (through rewatching sitcoms and rom-coms). I am also a lot like Jo March of Little Women: in love with writing, ambitious, loves her liberty too well to be in any hurry to give it up, and intends to make her own way in the world.

Hi, I’m Caroline. I live in Westchester, New York and I am a junior in high school. I love to participate in school activities that bring people together as I am the founder of the Creative Photography Club and captain of our school’s Varsity Alpine Ski Team. I also consider myself a storyteller, expressing myself through my writing pieces and photography. Although I love telling stories of my own, I value the amount of information you can gain listening to other people’s. For example, I enjoy listening to music, finding new artists (photographers, musicians, etc.) on social media, going to exhibitions and traveling. To me, there is nothing more inspiring or compelling than experiencing the vulnerability of another person.

Being born in Brazil to Bolivian parents but living in the US was very hard for me. I had no idea who I was. I tried my best to erase my Bolivian culture to fit in at school. This only backfired and made me lose touch with who I really am. Once I got to high school I realized that this wasn’t acceptable and that I need to be who I really am, una Boliviana. Accepting my culture was the best decision of my life and I now love talking about my beautiful country and educating others on its history and current events.

My name is Molly Ryan, and I have lived and grown up in Mississippi from the time I was 2 years old. I don’t like sweet tea, I’ve never shot a real gun, and almost all of my family is from New York.
